Quality Education in Australian Context
Facts and Figures
The children who entre school show a wide diversity in their development
78% (over three quarter) of Australian children aged 4 – 5 years meet the early developmental milestone and achieve successful transition to school
22% (approximately 68,000) of children aged 4 - 5 year olds fail to transit into school successfully due to vulnerable or at risk on one or more developmental domains
43% of Australian Indigenous children are not fully prepared for school which makes over two times more likely to be than non-indigenous children (43 per cent versus 21 per cent)
28% males are more likely to be vulnerable or at risk on one or more developmental domains than females at this milestone (16 per cent of females)
The children who are missing out at this milestone are more likely to have lower quality early childhood education services and schools in their area
Low socioeconomic background shows clear links to children not meeting the milestone at school entry
